Over 60 people evacuated after MBTA Red Line Derailment in Boston

Tuesday June 11th, 2019, at approximately 06:00 hours there was a derailed train caused by the Red Line at JFK/UMass Station.

The incident came just three days after a Green Line D Branch train derailed, sending nine people to the hospital. MBTA officials have said Saturday’s derailment was caused by an operator.

Boston Fire Department and their Boston Fire Fighters Local 718 IAFF members responded to the MBTA train accident and announced that derailment injured one person who denied EMS treatment however it did cause severe delays to commuters. Sixty people were evacuated, the department said.

The infrastructure damage caused by car derailment signaled for bungalows that need to be rebuilt, and new signals and cables would have to be installed. This process is expected to take weeks if not months to fully fix.
