One Dead Outside of TD Garden After Downtown Shooting

On November 23, 2019, at approximately 02:30 hours, Boston EMTs and Boston Police Officers assigned to Districts A-1 and A-15 responded to a 911 call reporting that a person had been shot in the area of Canal Street and Causeway Street near TD Garden.

When they arrived at the scene, first responders immediately confirmed that there was one male victim suffering from serious gunshot wounds to the head and hand. EMTs swiftly got him into an ambulance to receive treatment at a local hospital. Although he fought for his life, the victim eventually succumbed to his injuries.

Witnesses say that there was a car with two men inside seen fleeing from the site of the shooting toward the intersection of Canal and Causeway Street. Upon searching the vehicle, police found a firearm and the two suspects were placed under arrest.

Due to the severity of the incident, the supervisor on the scene made full notifications. Homicide Detectives, Crime Scene Response Investigators, Command Staff members and the District Attorney’s Office were all alerted and began responding immediately. Responders were working early into the morning marking evidence and speaking to witnesses.

Police have identified the two people who face charges of murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, and attempted armed robbery; BRYAN RICE, 22, of Boston, and ANTHONY BAPTISTA-GONCALVES, 24, also of Boston.

Police are still investigating this incident and there is no further information at this time. Detectives from Districts A-1 and A-15 are actively reviewing the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident.
