Shortly after 04:00 hours on May 20th, 2020 an off duty Boston Police Officer made a radio call for one of his neighbors houses at 44 Oriel Street in West Roxbury being on fire. Boston Fire responded, with first due companies requesting a second alarm shortly after and heavy fire showing.
Within the hour companies were able to knock down the main body of fire which had spread throughout the entire structure. The residents were able to be evacuated with out incident including their family dog.Only two people are expected to be displaced.
One firefighter was evaluated by Boston EMS and transported to a local area hospital for what is believed to be from smoke inhalation. He is expected to be okay.
Crews continued overhauling into the late morning with damages expected to be in the $750,000 range with both the house and car sustaining serious damage. BFD’s Fire Investigation Unit were on scene with the cause still under investigation.
