Yesterday morning at approximately 01:20 hours Boston Police responded to a radio call and ShotSpotter activation for shots fired in the area of Harold Street and Hutchings Street in the H-Block area of Roxbury.

Officers who arrived on scene quickly located a grey Jeep that had been shot up and had significant ballistic damage. Inside of the vehicle an elderly gentleman was located bleeding from the head. Immediately officers requested Boston EMS for what they assumed was a man who had been shot in the head. The scene appeared to be a targeted hit where shell casings showing that the shooter was only feet away from the vehicle.

Upon further evaluation they discovered that the man was miraculously intact and not shot. Neighbors we spoke to told us the man, who appeared to be at least 60 years old l, was a retired firefighter and beloved member of the community. One woman stated that she believed that he was a victim of mistaken identity, after a grey Jeep that looked identical was seen fleeing a shooting in rival gang’s neighborhood the night before.
