Yesterday at approximately 02:41 hours Boston Police Officers from District B-3 responded to Evans Street in Dorchester for the reports of a man with a machete causing a disturbance. After speaking with the caller, officers were informed the armed man had fled into his residence where there were children inside.
Officers attempted to alert the man to their presence by knocking on the door and announcing them selves as Boston Police Officers however no one responded. After repeated attempts to have someone answer the door, the decision was made to declare a Code 99 due to the extreme circumstances.
The Boston police SWAT Team was activated, and the Negotiation Unit as well as District Detectives, K-9 Assets and Command Staff responded to the scene. A perimeter was set and numerous attempts were made to contact the individuals inside of the residence. Boston EMS EMTs, Paramedics and the Division Lieutenant were on standby as well in case of any injuries.
At approximately 06:15 hours SWAT Team members were finally to make entry into the home where the secured the male subject. The man who was later identified as Franklin Holt-Barboza, 32, of Boston was taken into custody on charges of Assault by means of a Dangerous Weapon 209A. The other occupants of the home were evaluated by EMS and found to be in good health. No further information will be provided.
