At approximately 12:48 hours this morning Boston Police Officers from District B-3 responded to the area of 27 Harwood Street in Dorchester for the a ShotSpotter activation as well as multiple 911 calls for Shots Fired. Units who arrived on scene quickly noticed multiple pieces of ballistic evidence, confirming that shots were fired in the area.
Additionally units located a blood trail that lead away from the scene. While following the blood trail and looking for additional evidence, Officers located a firearm on scene. The area was quickly locked down and due to the expansive size and nature of the scene the Sergeant Detective made the decision to have the Crime Scene Response Unit respond and process the scene.
While canvassing the area for witnesses, evidence and other useful things, a gun shot victim was dropped off on a motorcycle at Boston Medical Center. Officers quickly responded to the hospital to gain information from the victim and to confirm the location of the shooting. When officers arrived they updated that he was in fact shot on Harwood Street as well as updating his condition to critical, life-threatening, and that he was being rushed into surgery. Due to these new facts, the decision was made to call for full notifications, alerting the Homicide Unit, DA’s Office, District Detectives and CSRU to respond to the scene.
While this was going on units on scene continued to canvass the area, and it was while conducting this canvas, that officers discovered two additional gun shot victims suffering from serious but non-life-threatening injuries hiding from officers in the basement of a home on Harwood Street almost 20 minutes after the original call was received.
They were removed from their hiding spot and Boston EMS was requested for their injuries. One victim was shot in the shoulder and the other was shot in the leg. Both were transported to a local area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Multiple witnesses described seeing a shoot out with multiple shooters rage between the street and sidewalk before the shooters fled on foot and others on motorcycles.
One neighbor was able to capture audio with their home surveillance and were kind enough to share it with us. You can hear a motorcycle approach, the numerous shots ring out, and then the bike peel away. We were able to count at least 22 rounds being fired from what sounds like at least two different shooters. Listen for yourself below:
