Quick Response by B-2 Officers Foil B&E Attempt at Tropical Foods

Early this morning at approximately 02:00 hours Boston Police Officers Assigned to District B-2 responded to a radio call from employees at Tropical Foods on Melnea Cass Blvd in Dudley Square asking for assistance with a person knocking on the store windows. Officers quickly responded however when they arrived they witnessed a man armed with a hammer smashing the glass front of the store.

As officers approached the man they proceeded to give verbal commands to drop the hammer, and lay down on the ground. As the man began to comply with the Officer’s commands, the man became semi-stuck with one leg in the hole he had smashed in the glass. Eventually he was able to free his leg and lay down on the ground. Officers quickly handcuffed the man and secured the hammer.

The man was taken into custody with no incident. Boston Police have now confirmed the man, identified as Brendan Wheatherbee 27-years-old of Boston was arrested on charges of Malicious Destruction of Property and Felony Breaking and Entering Nighttime, and on a Default Warrant.
