District B-2 Firearm Arrest on Columbus Ave Yesterday

About 2:27am on Thursday, December 24, 2020, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) made an on-site firearm arrest at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Richie Streets, Roxbury.

While on patrol in the area of Columbus Avenue and Centre Street, officers observed a motor vehicle traveling on Columbus Avenue at a speed greater than reasonable. Officers conducted a motor vehicle stop at the intersection of Columbus Avenue and Bancroft Street. As the officers spoke with the operator of the motor vehicle, identified as Joshua Madison, 27 years old of Jamaica Plain, he immediately informed the officers that he did not possess a valid drivers license. The officers identified the other two occupants, and requested that everyone exit the motor vehicle.

Officers observed the rear passenger, identified as Daquan Sparks, 27 years old of South Boston, glance down towards the floor several times. Officers focused their attention to this area of the motor vehicle, and observed what appeared to be a firearm underneath the front passenger seat. The firearm, a .40 caliber Smith & Wesson Beretta px4 Storm was loaded with (10) rounds of ammunition.

The operator, Joshua Madison, was placed under arrest and charged with Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle. Madison was also issued a MA Uniform Citation for the offense. The female passenger of the motor vehicle was identified and released from the scene.

Daquan Sparks was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm and Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License.
