B-3 Anti-Crime Unit Crushing It with Yet Another Firearm Arrest

About 1:30am on Thursday, 14, 2021 officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an on-site firearm arrest following a traffic stop at Glenway Street and Fowler Street, Dorchester.

While on patrol, officers observed a blue motor vehicle with excessive tint, stopped on Bradshaw Street with its right turn signal activated. As the vehicle began to turn right towards the officers, it made an abrupt left turn onto Glenway Street upon seeing the police cruiser. The officers pulled behind the motor vehicle and conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Glenway Street and Fowler Street.

The officers approached the vehicle and requested the operators license and registration. The operator, later identified as Rommel Nelson, 29 years old of Boston, appeared extremely nervous, with shallow breathing and unsteady hands as he accessed his wallet. Nelson handed the officer his ATM card before producing his driver’s license, and his voice appeared to crack as he spoke with the officers.

Officers observed a black backpack containing a yellow box of sandwich bags in the rear of the vehicle, and a black digital scale sitting on the center console. The officers requested that Nelson exit the vehicle, and as they opened the door, they smelled a strong odor of fresh marijuana.

Further investigation of the backpack revealed a black firearm, (5) medium plastic bags containing marijuana, digital scale, and personal papers belonging to Rommel Nelson. The firearm, a Glock 27 .40 caliber, was equipped with a (22) round high-capacity magazine containing (14) rounds. The serial number was defaced and could not be identified.

Rommel Nelson was placed under arrest and charged with Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License Second Offense, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition Subsequent Offense, Firearm with Defaced Serial Number, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D (Marijuana) Subsequent Offense. Nelson was also issued a MA Uniform Citation for Excessive Tint. Nelson is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
