Armed Car Chase from Dorchester to Methadone Mile to Roxbury Leads in Arrest and Recovery of a Firearm

About 10:22pm on Tuesday, January 19, 2021, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a Person with a Gun in the area of Draper Street and Homes Avenue, Dorchester. Several ShotSpotter activations were reported in the area of 24 Arcadia Street and 42 Draper Street. Officers were advised that the person with the gun was wearing a white sweatshirt, and they left operating a white SUV on Draper Street.

The white SUV was spotted at Adams Street and Kimball Street. An officer pulled behind the vehicle in an attempt to conduct a traffic stop, however the vehicle refused to stop, and instead drove down Dorchester Avenue towards Andrew Square, failing to stop at multiple stop signs and traffic lights. The vehicle continued to flee, ignoring the multiple marked cruisers with lights and sirens behind them.

The vehicle turned onto Southampton Street and travelled through the Newmarket Square Area towards Methadone Mile. The vehicle then made its way to Norfolk Avenue and onto Mt Pleasant Street, before being surrounded in the OP Projects by Boston Police marked cruisers forcing the vehicle to stop at 38 Adams Street, Roxbury.

As the occupants attempted to flee on foot, the suspect vehicle which was not left in park began rolling backwards, it narrowly missed multiple officers before colliding with a service unit. Within seconds just feet away from the vehicle, all three occupants were placed under arrest with out incident. Officers located a firearm in between two parked motor vehicles next to the passenger side of the suspect vehicle where one of the occupants had thrown the gun. The firearm, a Glock 19, was loaded with (10) rounds in the magazine and (1) in the chamber.

The operator, Eyad Abbas, 20 years old from Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Firearm Discharged Within 500ft of a Dwelling, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for a Police Officer, and Speed Exceeding Posted Limit. Abbas was also issued a MA Uniform Citation for the above vehicle infractions. Further inquiry revealed that Abbas was also wanted on a Dorchester District Court Straight Warrant charging Abbas with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License and Speeding.

Emerson Brandao, 26 years old from Dorchester, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Firearm Discharged Within 500ft of a Dwelling, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm. Brandao was also issued a MA Uniform Citation for a Seatbelt Violation.

The third passenger, Samuel Denton, 20 years old from West Roxbury, was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Firearm Discharged Within 500ft of a Dwelling, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition and Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm. Denton was also issued a MA Uniform Citation for a Seatbelt Violation. All three individuals are expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

Additionally, officers and detectives recovered multiple spent shell casings in the area of the original call and ShotSpotter. The ballistic evidence was photographed and collected with the expectation that it would match the recovered firearm.
