At about 11:26 PM on Thursday, February 4, 2021, officers assigned to District A-1 (Downtown) responded to a radio call for a person shot inside of 1 Avenue De Lafayette in Boston at the Hyatt Regency on the 15th floor. Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old female victim suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Boston EMS arrived on scene and pronounced the victim deceased.
Shortly after, Boston Police Officers found two people fitting the suspect descriptions matching individuals believe to be involved in the incident at the hotel at spruce Street and Chestnut Street. During the stop, Officers located a firearm on one of the suspects. Messiah Leggett, 20-years-old of Hyde Park was arrested on site and charged with illegal possession of a firearm. At this time no charges in the homicide at the Hyatt have been filed, however Boston Police did confirm that the two incidents were related, but would not elaborate further.
Leggett is already awaiting trial on gun charges for an incident last August at Ross Playground in Hyde Park, in which police say they found him with a gun loaded with 13 rounds in a backpack following an argument there. Prosecutors also shared that in speaking to police, Mr. Leggett acknowledged his possession of the firearm inside the hotel room where the deceased, a 17-year-old girl, was located.
