Federal Gang Task Force Assists in Apprehension of a Violent Fugitive in OP Projects

Saturday evening around 22:00 hours Boston Police Officers, Detectives, Command Staff and Investigators from the Youth Violence Strike Force (aka Gang Unit), City Wide Drug Control Unit, Special Investigation Unit, with assistance from the FBI Safe Streets Gang Task Force which includes multiple federal agencies arrested a violent fugitive in the Orchard Park Projects.

The arrest came after a warrant was issued out of Suffolk Superior Court following an investigation into a 7 year old firearm assault. According to documents, the suspect is said to have been one of three people that violently and mercilessly beat and robbed a person at gun point on January 16th of 2014 in the area of 1096 Blue Hill Ave in Dorchester.

On Saturday evening, his freedom came to and end when officers from the specialized Boston units, including members of the SWAT Team as well as Federal Agents and Investigators served an arrest warrant at a residence on Wheatley Way in the OP Projects.

The man who had now been identified as 30-year-old Juan Zapata of South Boston, was taken in to custody on warrants for Assault & Battery with a Dangerous Weapon, Armed Robbery, Assault by Means of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm as well as some other lesser charges. No further information is available at this time.
