Just before 17:00 hours Wednesday evening, Officers from District D-4 were conducting a routine traffic stop in the are of Tremont Street and Columbus Ave. in Roxbury.
The stopped vehicle came back as stolen, and when officers moved in to stop the vehicle, the operator took off, fleeing erratically at a high rate of speed. Officers decided to disengage and not pursue due to safety concerns; however moments later, a loud screech was heard as the vehicle crashed into at least 4 other cars.
One of the vehicles belonged to a local news reporter who was doing a story on the Northeastern Track and Field Nude Photos Scandal. The reporter was evaluated for minor injuries by Boston EMS but luckily escaped with only some minor injuries including a very very sore back.
The operator of the stolen vehicle fled on foot, leaving the car and discarding a firearm as he ran. The firearm was recovered by officers along with live rounds which were a scattered across the sidewalk next to a dorm. Northeastern Police assisted BPD, and they were able to get surveillance video of the area, giving them a clear image of the suspect.
