This morning around 09:00 hours, members of the Boston Police and Mass State Police Dive Team took part in a water training exercise in honor of Earth Day. The exercise was conducted at the M Street beach in South Boston, a popular summer hangout for residents.
The divers swam the shoreline collecting trash and other debris from the ocean floor as a way to give back while training. A few bags of trash were seen being taken from the dive. Only a handful of beach toys, sunglasses and some other garbage was discovered.
After the dive, Sgt Coyne, who heads the Dive Team as well as being on the Harbor Unit, said he was very happy with what he saw – noting an improvement in the amount of trash and an abundance of sea life, a good sign for the environment.
