Reckless Driver Goes Over Median, Takes out Traffic Lights and Erupts in Flames in Mattapan

Sunday morning at approximately 03:20 hours, Boston Police Officers assigned to District B-3, received calls for a major motor vehicle accident involving a suspected drunk driver on Morton Street, in the area between Wildwood Street and Theodore Street, in Mattapan.

Officers arrived to find a vehicle that had gone over the median, took out a traffic light, and had come to a halt before erupting into flames. Boston Fire was called in to put out the flames, leaving the remaining vehicle completely totaled. The driver amazingly only had minor injuries, and was transported by Boston EMS to a local hospital for treatment.

It became clear that the driver was speeding recklessly and lost control of the vehicle, and luckily there were no other injuries as a result. The official cause of the crash is still under investigation with no further information being confirmed at this time. Witnesses we spoke to said the driver appeared to have been intoxicated and racing when the incident occurred.
