At about 12:15 AM on Sunday May 23, 2021, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) made an onsite firearm arrest after getting flagged down in the area of 70 Talbot Avenue in Dorchester.
The officers were on patrol when they were approached by an adult male victim who stated that he had just been threatened by a male suspect, later identified as Michael Thomas, 30, of Dorchester, who was brandishing what appeared to be a semi-automatic handgun. The officers quickly located the suspect a short distance away standing next to a parked motor vehicle with the driver’s side door open.
The suspect was placed in custody without incident after the officers looked inside the vehicle and observed a firearm on the floor in plain sight. The weapon was safely recovered and determined to be a loaded 9mm Taurus 62C handgun. Thomas will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (2nd and Subsequent Offense), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device and Armed Career Criminal (Level 1).
