At about 2:29 AM on Friday June 11, 2021, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a call for a found weapon at a residence in Roxbury. Officers were advised by the 911 dispatcher that they had been contacted by a concerned juvenile caller who stated that they had just discovered an unsecured firearm underneath a couch seat cushion.
On arrival, officers were greeted by the unattended minor who directed them towards the firearm which the officers then observed in the described area. Additionally, officers observed what appeared to be the handle of a second firearm protruding from the drawer of a nightstand in another room. Officers then froze the scene pending the issuance of a search warrant and notified the Massachusetts Department of Children and Family (DCF).
While on scene, officers arrested a 34-year-old male from Roxbury on charges of Unlawful Possession and Improper Storage of a Firearm. The suspect is expected to face arraignment in Roxbury District Court.
At about 8:00 PM on Friday June 11, 2021, detectives executed a search warrant which was granted out of Roxbury District Court leading to the recovery of the two firearms which had been observed by the officers during their investigation as well as a third firearm which was located inside a bedroom closet.
The weapons were determined to be a loaded 9mm Taurus PT 11g2 handgun with an obliterated serial number, a loaded .40 caliber Smith & Wesson M&P Shield handgun with an obliterated serial number and a loaded .22 LR caliber Phoenix Arms HP 22 handgun. Officers also recovered several rounds of various caliber ammunition and numerous prescription pills in plastic bags along with a digital scale. Additional charges are expected to be filed against the male suspect.
