Two Suspects in Custody After BPD Officers Recover Firearm During Follow-Up Investigation in Dorchester

At about 4:40 PM on Saturday June 12, 2021, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) made an onsite firearm arrest following an investigation in the area of 12 East Street in Dorchester. A BPD Sergeant was on patrol when he observed Algier Griffeth, 25, of Dorchester, standing on the front porch of the residence with another male party later identified as Amaree Williams, 18, of Dorchester, (AKA Damaree Newton).

As the sergeant began to speak with Griffeth concerning an unrelated recent incident in the area, he observed that Williams appeared to be attempting to conceal an unidentified object in his right pants pocket while standing in a bladed stance. When the sergeant turned his attention towards Williams, he suddenly retreated into the residence, fleeing up the stairs to the second floor. Believing that the suspect could be armed with a firearm, the sergeant followed him up the stairs where he observed him frantically trying to gain entry to a locked apartment door. When the sergeant began to perform a pat frisk, he immediately detected a semi-automatic handgun in the suspect’s pants pocket.

The sergeant attempted to place the suspect in custody, Griffeth appeared behind him, screaming profanities and spitting on his face and shoulder. Seconds later, numerous patrol officers arrived on scene and both parties were placed in custody at which a 9mm Taurus Millennium handgun was recovered from Williams as well as a loaded magazine from his rear pants pocket. Both suspects will appear in Dorchester District Court for arraignment. Algier Griffeth will be charged with Assault and Battery on a Police Officer. Amaree Williams will be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.
