BPD Recruit Misses Graduation After Wife Goes into Labor

For any BPD Recruit, one of the best days of your career will always be the day you finally graduate from the Boston Police Academy following months of rigorous and intensive training. The night before, you stay up late to make sure your shoes are perfectly shined. You wake up early to prepare your uniform for inspection. Then, you arrive at your graduation venue, ready to stand alongside of your classmates, ready to take a solemn oath swearing to protect the City of Boston with your family, friends and loved ones there to celebrate your accomplishments.

On Thursday June 10, 2021, members of Boston Police Academy Recruit Class 60-20 were officially sworn in as Boston Police Officers during a graduation ceremony held at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center in the Seaport. BPD Recruit Officer Brian M. Guerard was not in attendance. On what could have been one of the best days of his career, he was instead celebrating one of the best days of his life, standing alongside of his wife as she gave birth to their first child – a beautiful baby girl.

Earlier today, on Monday June 14, 2021, Superintendent in Chief Long welcomed Recruit Guerard and his family to Boston Police Headquarters for a private swearing in ceremony where he was officially appointed as a Boston Police Officer. We congratulate Officer Guerard and his wife upon the birth of their daughter and welcome them to the family of the Boston Police Department.
