At approximately 00:15 hours on Thursday August 26, Boston Police officers from district D-4 responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident at Columbus and Mass Ave.
The parties on scene were injured, and the vehicle was clearly totaled. The driver of the vehicle told officers they were struck by another car, that had fled down Columbus towards Roxbury.
At the same time, numerous calls came in for a car heavily smoking, possibly on fire, driving erratically down Columbus and passing by Boston Police Headquarters. Units from District B2 responded, tracking the vehicle through the debris it was leaving behind. Officers finally located the vehicle on Malcom X, less than one block away from the district.
Officers were forced to drag the opperator out of the car, which was now fully engulfed, while using a fire extinguisher to push back the flames.
The driver had what appeared to be a serious leg injury, and was transported to a local area hospital by Boston EMS. It is unknown at this time why the operator fled, however it is assumed that he will be summonsed for his actions. No further information has been released at this time.
