Apparent Accident Leaves Construction Worker Dead in East Boston

At approximately 11:15 hours Yesterday morning, Police Officers from District A-7, Boston EMS and Boston Fire responded to the area of 187 Sumner Street in East Boston for reports of a construction worker who had fallen over 5 floors to the ground.

When Officers and EMTs arrived, they located a man, described as a Brazilian man in his mid-30s, suffering from severe, multi-system trauma. It was quickly determined that the man was deceased on scene and his body was left for investigators. Due to the nature of his death full notifications were made, with members of the Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Response Unit, Command Staff, District Attorney’s Office, A-7 Detectives and others all responding to the scene.

According to the Boston Planning and Development Agency website, the project is expected to be a seven-story apartment building with 42 housing units for low-income seniors. Boston Police, inspectional services and Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident. Police did not confirm if the man was a construction worker.

No other information has been released at this time. The investigation is ongoing and no further details have been made public.
