Boston And State Police Gang Unit Recover Firearm and Arrest Two After Violent Struggle and Foot chase

At about 3:40 PM on Thursday October 21, 2021, members of the BPD Youth Violence Strike Force arrested a 33-year-old male from Lynn, MA, on firearm related charges in the area of East Cottage Street and Leyland Street in Dorchester.

The officers had responded to a call for shots fired in the area when they observed the suspect vehicle fleeing the area. Officers performed a traffic stop at which time they attempted to remove the suspect who was operating the vehicle, leading to a violent struggle.

During the struggle a taser was deployed in attempts to gain control over the suspect and the firearm with out the use of deadly force. The suspect was eventually secured and placed in custody after a foot chase and another struggle. This again highlights the professionalism and training that allowed this encounter to end with an arrest rather than an Officer involved shooting.

Officers then safely recovered a partially loaded .22LR caliber Browning Arms Buck Mark handgun along with 2 bags of fentanyl and 2 bags of crack cocaine from inside the vehicle.

There were no victims located at the scene of the initial call for shots fired. District Detectives from B-2 responded and processed the spent shell casings which also appeared to be a small caliber similar to the firearm recovered.

The suspect has since been arraigned in Roxbury District Court on multiple charges including Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class A and B Drugs. Per Department policy the identity of the suspect is not released at this time.
