Level 2 Hazmat Incident at Tufts School of Medicine

On Tuesday, November 2, at around 15:30 hours, Boston Fire Department, along with other agencies, responded to 136 Harrison Avenue for reports of a hazmat situation.

The building sits in the Bay Cove neighborhood, and houses the laboratories of Tufts University School of Medicine.

A chemical fire, that originated inside of a storage refrigerator, was skillfully knocked down by BFD. Apparatuses stayed on scene for hours, standing by during the decontamination before they cleared to their respective stations.

At this time cause of the fire is still unknown. Investigators from BFD’s Fire Investigation Unit are still looking into the incident however at this time no foul play is suspected.
