On Sunday December 13, 2021, at approximately 21:20 hours, Boston EMS, Boston Police Officers from District D-14 and Massachusetts State Police Troopers responded to Birmingham Parkway at Western Avenue in Brighton for reports of a vehicle rollover.
On arrival, a female, described as around 50 years old from Maine, was located with life-threatening injuries in one vehicle. The other driver, a male subject who attempted to flee the scene, was found a short distance away only suffering from minor injuries and placed into custody. Both vehicles had extensive damage.
Boston EMS transported the woman to a local area hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The male subject was also taken to a local area hospital while under arrest, he is expected to be released from medical care and arraigned later today.
Massachusetts State Police took the lead on the investigation, with troopers assigned to the Suffolk County District Attorneys Office, Collision Analysis & Reconstruction Section, Crime Scene Services Section, and an Assistant District Attorney all responding.
Preliminary investigation by by the State Police indicates that a 19-year-old Randolph man, now identified as ANDERSON A. NOVA, was driving a rented 2022 Buick Enclave sport utility vehicle negligently and at an excessive rate of speed on Soldiers Field Road in Brighton, and then continued onto Birmingham Parkway.
State Police have charged NOVA with the following offenses:
1 Motor Vehicle Homicide by Negligent Operation;
2 Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle;
3 Operating After Suspension;
5 Leaving the Scene of a Crash Causing Personal Injury or Death;
6 Receiving Stolen Property; and
7 Using a Motor Vehicle Without Authority.
