On Monday, January 10, 2022 at approximately 11:20 hours, Boston Police responded to the area of 34 Newmarket Square for reports of a found body.
On arrival, officers met with members of the crew removing the Mass and Cass homeless encampment. They stated that they found a tarp outside of a tent, and assuming it was waste, attempted to discard it. When the tarp was moved, however, a human hand became visible and the crew promptly called 911.
Inside the tarp was a 29 year old man wrapped in several blankets.

It appears the man died from a fentanyl overdose, a sadly common cause of death in the area, combined with exposure to the recently frigid temperatures.
This is one of two bodies discovered during the dismantling of Mass and Cass
