At about 10:16 PM on Thursday January 27, 2022, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) arrested 34-year-old Bakari Whitt after responding to a call for shots fired in the area of Fuller Street in Dorchester. On arrival, officers spoke with a victim on scene who stated that they had been involved in a physical confrontation with the suspect inside a residence and that they had heard a single gunshot as they fled.

When officers learned that the suspect was still inside and unwilling to comply with verbal commands, additional resources were called to the scene, including Boston Police Hostage Negotiators and members of the BPD SWAT Team. After a prolonged standoff, the suspect was placed in custody without further incident at which time the address was frozen pending the issuance of a search warrant which was later applied for and granted out of Dorchester District Court.

Earlier today, at about 4:00 PM, detectives made peaceful entry and safely recovered a loaded 9mm Pavona handgun as well as a single spent shell casing near where the suspect was apprehended inside the residence.

The suspect will appear in Dorchester District Court on charges of Assault and Battery by Means of a Dangerous Weapon although additional charges may be sought pending the outcome of this ongoing investigation.
