At approximately 23:05 hours on Saturday February 19, 2022 Boston Police Officers Assigned to District B-3 responded to a 911 call for shots fired at 473 River Street, the restaurant Mello Vibez, next door to the infamous Macumba Nightclub. While officers were responding to the call, additional 911 calls began coming in for a reported person shot inside the kitchen of the restaurant. According to witnesses in the area, approximately 6 shots were heard, and Officers quickly began canvassing the area for victims, additional witnesses and evidence.
The Street was shut down, and eventually Officers located two people shot, a male and a female. The female was quickly taken by Boston EMS to a local area hospital with critical life threatening injuries. While officers rendered aid to the male subject, they located a firearm on his person. He was also transported to a local area hospital however he was under arrest and escorted by Officers. His injuries are minor and believed to be non-life threatening at this time.
Due to the severity of the female’s injuries, full notifications were made. Investigators from the Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Response Unit and Command Staff all responded to the scene in addition to District B-3 Detectives. The shooting occurred inside the dining room of the restaurant and investigators could be seen going in and out of the building late into the night and early the next morning.
Although some questionable sources, specifically a popular inner city Twitter account, claimed that there was “two people were shot, 1 is confirmed dead” that is not true. Our credible sources have told us this is far from fact and that neither the female or male are deceased at this time. We contacted Boston Police for further information, and they were only able to confirm that both parties who had been shot are still alive at the time of publication. As for the male subject and the firearm, Boston Police were unable to provide any further information including charges and involvement in the incident.
