Roxbury Anti-Crime Unit Arrests Two on Firearms Charges Sunday

At about 12:46 AM on Sunday, March 20, 2022, Officers assigned to District B-2 anti-crime unit made an on-site firearm arrest of Rufus Wornum, 37, of Mattapan, and David Sosa, 31, of Roxbury on motor vehicle violations in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Brunswick Street.

Officers were on directed patrol in the area of Blue Hill Avenue in Roxbury when they observed a motor vehicle with excessive tint driving in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Quincy streets. Further investigation revealed that the registered owner, David Sosa, had a suspended license.

Officers stopped the vehicle in the area and confirmed David Sosa was operating the vehicle without a valid license. Officers subsequently pat-frisked a bag that a passenger, identified as Rufus Wornum, attempted to take from the vehicle when exiting and recovered a loaded firearm. Sosa and Wornum were taken into custody without incident.

The firearm was determined to be a Luger 9mm with one (1) round in the chamber and three (3) rounds in the magazine.

Rufus Wornum is to be charged with Firearm violation with prior Violent/Drug Crimes, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. David Sosa is to be charged with Operating a Motor Vehicle with a Suspended License. Wornum and Sosa are expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court.
