At About 1:30 am on Saturday, April 23, 2022, Officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) responded to a radio call for a person with a gun in the area 113 Greenbrier St. in Dorchester, and made an on-site firearm arrest of Ricardo Fields, 40, of Hyde Park.
Responding officers were provided a description of a possible suspect, and upon arrival located Fields standing on a nearby porch. As officers attempted to speak with Fields, he pushed past officers and fled on foot. During a Brief Foot chase Officers observed Fields remove an object from his waistband and discard it on the sidewalk. Officers immediately recognized this object to be a firearm. An additional responding Officer drew their department issued firearm, and ordered Fields to stop.
Fields ignored the officers commands, ran at the officer, and grabbed the barrel of the officers department issued firearm. The officer was able to maintain control of his firearm, and has he attempted to place the firearm back into the holster, Fields again attempted to gain control of the firearm causing the magazine of the Officers firearm to be ejected. Additional responding units were able to place Fields into custody without further incident. The firearm was determined to be a 9mm Luger handgun with one (1) round in the chamber, and seven (7) rounds in the magazine.
Fields is to be charged with two counts of Unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, Carrying a loaded firearm on a public way, Assault with a deadly weapon, Assault and Battery on a police Officer, possession of a firearm with an Obliterated serial number, and Armed Career Criminal Level 3. Ricardo Fields is to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
