Officers Assigned to District B3 Make Arrest After a Call for Shots Fired

At about 6:17 pm May, 20, 2022, Officers assigned to District B3 (Mattapan/Dorchester) responded to a radio call for Shots Fired at 40 Arbutus Street in Dorchester and made an on-site firearm arrest of Ernest Charlot Jr., 22, of Dorchester.

On arrival, Officers located multiple spent cartridge casings on the sidewalk and the front porch of 40 Arbutus Street. Given the nature of the call, the location of the empty shell cartridges, and concerns for Officer and public safety, Officers conducted a protective sweep of the above address for possible victims or suspects.

While conducting the sweep, officers encountered two males, one identified as Ernest Charlot, in an apartment. During the protective sweep, Officers observed two firearms in a common hallway. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Charlot.

The recovered firearms were a 9mm handgun with a large capacity magazine with eight (8) rounds in the magazine and 1 Taurus 9mm with a mounted flashlight. Charlot is to be charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, and Discharge of a Firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling. Ernest Charlot is to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
