On June 10th, 2022 at approximately 11:40, Boston Police received multiple calls stating that a man had jumped off the North Washington Street Bridge, between the North End and Charlestown. Officers from Districts A-1 and A-15 responded to the calls as well as the Boston Fire Department. Additionally BPD Officers from the Citywide Bike Unit, Command Staff, and A-1 Detectives also responded to the scene.
After fighting through the post game traffic at TD Garden, units arrived on the scene, and they conducted a widespread and thorough search of the water. According to witnesses on scene two people had entered the water shortly after the conclusion of the Celtics game.
The original person jumped in for unknown reasons and then a second person who did not know the first man, heroically jumped in an effort save the first. The would be rescuer was unable to make find the first man and was pulled to shore by bystanders.
After nearly an hour of searching, firefighters located the original the jumpers submerged in the water. Divers and rescue swimmers were able to drag the man to a nearby dock. Once on shore, CPR was performed in an attempt to save his life.
The man were then transported by Boston EMS, EMT’s, and Paramedics to MGH. Officials confirmed that the man was pronounced deceased at the hospital. It is still unknown if the man intended to jump or fell. At this time the incident remains under investigation however the preliminary investigation does not indicate any foul play.
