At about 6:46 P.M on June 12, 2022, Officers assigned to District B-2 made an onsite firearm arrest of Emanuel Pires, 18, of Dorchester, following a traffic stop near the intersection of Richfield Street and Westwood Street in Dorchester.

Officers were on directed patrol when they observed a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign. Officers conducted a traffic stop and, due to the inability to ascertain the number of occupants in the vehicle because of heavy tints, were assisted by Youth Violence Strike Force officers. As officers spoke with the operator, they requested that the windows in the vehicle be lowered as the tint prevented them from seeing inside of the vehicle.

Officers made several additional on-scene observations that led them to believe a weapon was in the vehicle. Officers removed the occupants of the vehicle and, upon removing one of the rear passengers, identified as Emanuel Pires, noted a fanny pack on the floor.

Officers conducted a pat-frisk of the bag and immediately recognized an object consistent with the shape and size of a firearm. An additional on-scene investigation determined that Pires was the individual in possession of the firearm, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Officers released all of the other vehicle occupants from the scene, and the operator of the motor vehicle was issued a traffic citation for failure to stop at a stop sign and excessive tint. The firearm was determined to be a P80 9mm loaded with a magazine consisting of a total of seventeen (17) rounds and one (1) additional loose round within the fanny pack.
