At about 7:35 PM on Tuesday, August 16, 2022, Members of the Youth Violence Strike Force conducted an investigation in the area of 200 D Street, which led to a firearm arrest of Junior Martinez-Perello, 23, of Boston.

Based on an active investigation, officers became aware that a large group was filming a video in the area of D Street and believed that a member of the group might be armed with a firearm.

As officers approached the group, a male, identified as Martinez-Perello, immediately began to walk away from the group. Officers stopped Martinez-Perello and conducted a pat-frisk of his person.

Officers felt a hard metallic object consistent with a firearm. As officers attempted to remove the firearm, a violent struggle ensued in which Martinez-Perello made multiple attempts to maintain control of the firearm and refused multiple commands to release his grip on the firearm. Officers eventually placed Martinez-Perello in custody and recovered a loaded firearm.

Following the arrest, a large and unruly crowd began to form and required the response of additional units from multiple districts to secure the scene safely.

The firearm recovered was determined to be a .40 caliber Smith and Wesson with one (1) live round in the chamber and ten (10) rounds in the magazine.
Junior Martinez-Perrello will be charged in South Boston District Court with Unlawful Possession of a firearm, Carrying a loaded firearm, Unlawful Possession of ammunition, Possession of a large capacity feeding device, and resisting arrest.
