BPD and MSP Youth Violence Strike Force Recover Loaded Firearm Following Traffic Stop

At about 2:50 PM on Monday, August 1, 2022, Members of the Youth Violence Strike conducted a traffic stop in the area of 61 Columbia Road in Dorchester, resulting in the recovery of a firearm and the arrest of Darian Nelson, 29, of Hyde Park.

Officers were on directed patrol in the area of Blue Hill Avenue and Glenway Street when they observed a grey Honda Accord with defective brake light.  A query of CJIS additionally revealed that the owner of the vehicle, identified as Darian Nelson, had a suspended driver’s license.

Officers conducted a traffic stop, spoke with the operator, Darian Nelson, and advised him of the defective tail light and his driver’s license status. Officers requested Nelson exit the vehicle, and a subsequent search prior to the vehicle being towed revealed a loaded firearm.  Nelson was taken into custody without further incident.

The firearm recovered was determined to be a Jimenez arms 9mm loaded with seven (7) rounds in the magazine.

Darian Nelson is to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm, and Operation of a Motor-Vehicle after License suspension.
