Abandoned Train Cars Catch Fire in Somerville

On Saturday, September 10, 2022, at approximately 20:40 hours, the Boston Fire Department, Somerville Fire, Tango 2, Somerville Police, and Transit Police responded to multiple calls reporting a train fire at 70 Third Avenue in Somerville.

When first responders arrived on the scene, it was quickly noted that there were a number of abandoned train cars. Multiple cars were involved in the fire, and responders immediately began taming the flames.

According to sources involved in the investigation, the trains that caught fire had not been used in recent years. It was also noted that there was a considerable amount of graffiti on and around the train cars, which could indicate that trespassers may have started the fire.

Fortunately, there were no injuries related to this incident. The cause of the fire is currently unknown and there have been no arrests.
