Woman Fatally Shot in Mattapan Early Sunday Morning

On Sunday, October 23, 2022, at approximately 04:47 hours, Boston EMTs and Boston Police officers assigned to District B-3 responded to multiple 911 calls reporting that a person had been shot at 40 Fairlawn Avenue in Mattapan. The callers said the victim was unresponsive.

When first responders arrived, they immediately located an adult female victim suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds to her neck. EMTs quickly tried to save her life, but she tragically succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased on the scene. Boston Police have identified her as Jasmine Burrell, 33, of Mattapan.

The supervisor on the scene made full notifications due to the severity of the incident. Boston Police officers quickly worked to close off the area and began to mark evidence. Members from the Homicide Unit, Crime Scene Response Unit Command staff and others all responded to the scene.

The victim was found inside white Ford Explorer, which is believed to be somehow involved in the incident. Responders marked and photographed the car before it was towed from the scene for further inspection. Police also discovered broken glass and empty red plastic cups in the parking lot near the Ford. The cups were collected by CSRU investigators for further DNA analysis.

Police and Detectives thoroughly scanned the area looking for possible suspects. Unfortunately, after hours of work, police confirmed that the suspect was no longer near the scene. No arrests have been made and detectives are still actively working to find the person responsible for this fatal incident.
