BFD Responds to 2-alarm fire in Hyde Park

On Wednesday, October 26, 2022, at approximately 18:40 hours, the Boston Fire Department responded to multiple 911 calls reporting a structure fire at a multi-family home at 40 Maple Street in Hyde Park. A second alarm was struck upon their arrival.

The fire was mainly located at the back of the building, crawling all the way up to the second floor. Firefighters evacuated all the residents safely, and then quickly worked to quell the flames. They mainly worked in the back, climbing ladders with hoses to thoroughly calm the fire. Eventually, the fire was stopped and everyone was out safely.

Luckily, most of the residents came out of the incident unharmed. One female was transported by Boston EMS to a local hospital for minor injuries, but she is expected to fully recover. According to the Boston Fire Department, damage costs are estimated to be around $250,000.

As this is a multi-family home, multiple people were displaced as a result of the fire. 6 adults and 9 children were left without a place to sleep. Fortunately, Massachusetts Red Cross was able to help everyone who was displaced find temporary housing.
