On Monday, October 24, 2022, at approximately 23:15 hours, Massachusetts State Police officers responded to a 911 call reporting that a tractor-trailer had struck the Storrow Drive overpass near the Boston University Bridge, also known as “Storrowing.”
Upon arrival, officers noted that the accident occurred on the eastbound side of the road and closed off the area immediately. The tractor-trailer was stuck under the overpass. The State Police Department Tweeted that it would take until the morning hours to clear the accident.
“Storrowing” refers to trucks that hit the overpass near the Boston University Bridge, and received the affectionate title due to the commonality of the occurrence in the area. Another tractor-trailer storrowed and tipped over in the same area just a couple weeks ago.
Throughout the night, Police worked to clear the wreckage in time for the morning commute. At approximately 08:30 hours, the truck was finally cleared and Police reopened the road. The driver of the tractor-trailer was unharmed in the accident.
Many residents in the area worry that storrowing will become more frequent since it already occurs quite often during college move-in season. Many believe that tractor-trailers should not be allowed to drive near Storrow Drive and think that the city should place more restrictions to avoid accidents in the future.
