Gang Unit Recovers Loaded Firearm From Violent, Repeat (4th Offense) Offender

At about 20:36 hours on Thursday November 3, 2022, members of the BPD Youth Violence Strike Force arrested John Silva, 29, of West Roxbury on firearm related charges following a traffic stop in the area of 648 Warren Street in Roxbury.

The officers had stopped a motor vehicle for a traffic infraction (marked lane violation) and were approaching to speak with the operator, later identified as the suspect, when they observed him attempting to hide an unidentified object near the center console.

The officers then removed the suspect to conduct a pat frisk of which led to the recovery of a loaded 9mm Smith & Wesson SW9VE handgun from inside the vehicle. Additionally they located a paintball gun and machete.

This wasn’t Silva’s first run-in with the law. In 2015 at age 22, Silva was arrested by Boston Officers assigned to District A-15 and City Wide Drug Unit on firearm and drug charges in Charlestown. When approached by Offices, Silva attempted to flee and then violently fought with officers before they finally were able to take him into custody. In this incident he was charged with a 2nd and Subsequent Firearm Offense indicating this was not his first rodeo.

Twelve months later in December of 2016, 23-year-old Silva was again arrested on firearm charges this time by the Gang Unit. According to reports the officers were conducting an active and ongoing firearm investigation in the area of 2000 Centre Street in West Roxbury which Silva was the target. When the officers began to perform a pat frisk, a violent struggle ensued as Silva made numerous attempts to reach towards the gun in his waistband area of his pants. With the assistance of an officer working a paid detail nearby Silva was eventually placed in custody and a loaded .380 caliber Cobra Enterprises CA-380 handgun was safely recovered.

Clearly not learning from his mistakes, 27-year-old Silva was yet again arrested in 2020 on firearm charges with another man. According to police, they stopped a vehicle in the area of Dudley Street and Brook Avenue in which they eventually located a firearm. This would be the last record we could find before this most recent arrest.

The suspect Silva was placed in custody without incident and will appear in Roxbury District Court on charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm (4th Offense), Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Carrying a Loaded Firearm and Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device.
