This past Wednesday, November 2, Vice President Kamala Harris visited Boston to speak about the Biden Administration’s plan to reduce heating costs this upcoming Winter. The Secret Service along with Massachusetts State Police officers and Boston Police officers assisted in escorting the Vice President safely through the city.
Harris’s speech was planned for Wednesday afternoon in Dorchester. The Secret Service, State Police, and Boston Police were all present at the event to ensure both the Vice President and the attendee’s safety. She announced multiple plans of action to help families through the Winter, which included adding more heat pumps to home across the country.
Throughout the event, Harris spoke about lowering energy costs across the country. This is especially relevant in Boston, which is greatly affected by brutal Winter weather each year. During her speech, she stated, “By helping families pay the upfront cost for energy efficiency upgrades to their homes, we are also lowering energy bills, bringing down household costs, creating jobs, and fighting the climate crisis.”
Harris was then transported by the Secret Service to the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College to speak about the upcoming midterm election on Tuesday, November 8. Multiple Democratic officials and candidates joined Harris, including Governor candidate Maura Healy and current Boston Mayor Michelle Wu. They all spoke about a multitude of issues on the ballot and urged everyone in attendance to cast their votes.
While the event went mostly without incident, Harris’s speech was abruptly interrupted by protesters in attendance. During the first few minutes of her speech, the protesters yelled loudly twice, and were swiftly removed by the Secret Service and Police. The rest of the event went smoothly.
At the end of the event, Harris was safely escorted out of the Athletic Center. The Vice President left Boston without further interruption.
