BREAKING: Suspicious Object Causes Area Lock Down Around “Tip” O’Neill Federal Building

Earlier today shortly before 11:00 hours, multiple law enforcement agencies including the Federal Protective Service, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, Boston Police and others responded to reports of a suspicious object that was located on the front steps of 10 Causeway Street, the Thomas P. ‘Tip’ O’Neill, Jr. Federal Building.

A K-9 from the Federal Protective Service was called to the location and the dog positively alerted to the object prompting the Boston Police Bomb squad to respond to the scene. Boston Police officers in the area also detained two subjects in relation to the object.

The entire area was locked down by both local and federal authorities, with the area fully cordoned off and a perimeter set for public safety. When EOD technicians arrived on scene they could be seen examining the object as well as taking portable x-rays and completing other diagnostics.

The object was eventually deemed to be safe and it was turned over to federal officials on scene. An ATF spokesperson tells us that the entire incident was out of an abundance of caution and that there was so threat to public safety. We have not been able to confirm what happened to the two individuals that were detained.
