Boston Police Still Searching for Shooter After Early Morning ShotSpotter Activation

At approximately 02:00 hours this morning, December 19, 2022, Officers assigned to District B-3 responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area near 30 Fremont Street in Mattapan for one round.

Officers and K-9 Units both converged on the scene and began searching to suspects, evidence and possible victims. Immediately, Police noticed a male suspect fleeing the area and began chasing him. The suspect ran out of his shoes before jumping through a hole in a fence and disappearing.

As officers searched for the suspect, others began canvasing the area for witnesses and evidence. They located a single shell casing in front of 30 Freemont and the area was tapped off. District B-3 Detectives responded and processed the shell casing and shoes but no other evidence was found and there were no signs of ballistic damage anywhere.

K-9 Units searched the area with officers for hours before identifying a probable flight path and suspect location. At this time no arrests have been made, however sources close to the investigation tell us they are confident they know who the shooter is.

The investigation is still ongoing and there is no further information at this time. Anyone with information is urged to contact B-3 Detectives at 617-343-4712.
