Randolph Man Arrested By Boston Gang Unit and State Police After Incident

On Thursday, January 19, 2023, at approximately 19:45 hours, Boston Police officers assigned to Gang Unit and Troopers from SP Milton conducted a vehicle stop of a 2021 GMC Terrain in the area of 4165 Washington Street.

However, the suspect had other plans and attempted to flee in his car down Washington Street. The Troopers and officers gave chase and called for backup in order to assure he did not get away.

The suspect was soon stopped, but not by an officer. As another unit was responding, the suspect crashed his vehicle into the police cruiser. After this, officers apprehended him and promptly placed him under arrest. There was a passenger in the car with the suspect who was also apprehended, but it is unknown if he was charged.

Both the suspect’s vehicle and the police cruiser involved in the crash sustained some damage, but the damage costs are unknown. Additional State Police Troopers soon arrived at the scene to assist with the aftermath of the collision. Both the car and cruiser were towed from the scene.

The State Police have identified the suspect as JAMES MENDES, 31, of Randolph. Mendes is facing charges of Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Failure to Stop for Police, and Resisting Arrest. No further information is available at this time.
