On January 5th, 2023, at approximately 14:00 hours, the Brookline Fire Department along with Brookline Police responded to a report of a building fire at 1398 Beacon St. Firefighters arrived on scene and found heavy smoke showing.

The source of the heavy smoke was found to be originating from a kitchen fire located towards the back of Uzbegim, a small Uyghur Cuisine restaurant. Thanks to the fast-acting Brookline Firefighters, the fire was quickly extinguished.

Brookline Police wanted to take proper safety precautions as well to prevent any disruptions at the scene, so they blocked off Harvard St, Centre St, and Winchester St. Police then asked the public to make sure they avoid those areas.

No one was injured at the fire, and the extent of the damages to the restaurant remains unknown. Unfortunately, since the fire was located towards the back of the building, one family did end up displaced, as their home was affected by the fire. They are staying with relatives for the time being.

Police also announced to the public that the roads that were closed off for this emergency will slowly reopen, and they will update everyone on when they do. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time and is currently under investigation.
