The Boston Fire Department got a call from a tenant claiming they saw a fire through a light fixture. Boston Fire Chief Mike McCormack said if that tenant had not been home to see and make the call, things could have gone a lot differently. When the Jakes arrived, the fire had already traveled from the basement to the first floor.

Luckily, firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and percent it from traveling further within the building. Firefighters did complete a lengthy overhauling process to ensure there was no extension of the fire and that all hotspots had been extinguished.
