Boston Police Officers from District B-2 responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Washington Street and Townsend Street yesterday, March 17, 2023, at approximately 6:15 p.m. The activation, which is part of the city’s gunfire detection system, alerted police to the sound of gunfire in the area.
Upon arrival, officers discovered ballistic evidence at the scene and quickly secured the area. They also canvassed the area for any potential witnesses and alerted district detectives to respond to the scene.
The detectives who arrived at the scene processed it meticulously, carefully marking, photographing and collecting the evidence. As of now, there are no suspects or arrests in connection to the incident.
The Boston Police Department has emphasized that they take all incidents involving firearms seriously and are dedicated to investigating every instance of gunfire detected by the ShotSpotter system.
