At about 8:25 PM, on Friday, March 24, 2023, officers assigned to District C-6 (South Boston), arrested Freddie Bates, 45, of Boston, and a 16-year-old female, on firearm-related charges. Officers responded to the area of 25 District Avenue to assist Security with a removal of a male suspect who was causing a disturbance inside the AMC Theater. Officers observed the suspect and asked him multiple times to leave the area.
The suspect ran past officers and began to fight one of the security guards. As officers were attempting to place the suspect into handcuffs, officers began to be pushed by other suspects to prevent the arrest. Officers were able to place one suspect into handcuffs.
Officers were quickly advised by the security guard that his firearm holster was dislodged during the altercation and he could not find his firearm. Officers observed a female juvenile to be clenching an item under a jacket and immediately running from officers. A brief foot pursuit ensued, and officers were able to place the suspect into handcuffs. Officers were able to safely recover the firearm. As officers were searching Bates, they recovered a firearm from his waistband. The firearm was determined to be a Hopkins and Allen with five rounds in the magazine.
Bates was placed under arrest and charged with; Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Assault and Battery, Disorderly Conduct, and Trespassing. He was arraigned in South Boston District Court. The 16-year-old female was placed under arrest and charged with; Delinquent to wit Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Delinquent to wit Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Delinquent to Wit Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Assault and Battery, and Larceny of a Firearm. She was arraigned in South Boston District Court.
