At about 7:05 PM, on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, officers assigned to District C-11 (Dorchester) and members of the Youth Violence Strike Force, made an on-site firearm arrest of Chivaugn Nettles, 18, of Mattapan.

Officers were responding to the area of Sumner Square for a radio call for a person with a knife. Upon arrival, officers observed a group of individuals outside of the building and overheard one of the individuals make a statement about where their firearms were.
Officers attempted to pat frisk all of the individuals and were drawn to a suspect who refused to comply. As officers asked the suspect to stand up, he immediately hunched over. Officers attempted to gain control of the suspect’s hands, and a struggle ensued. The suspect was placed under arrest.
Officers immediately located a firearm from the suspect’s waistband. The firearm was determined to be a ACP Baikal with one round in the chamber and five rounds in the magazine. Nettles was charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Assault and Battery on a Police Officer, and Resisting Arrest. He was arraigned in Dorchester District Court.
